Fuel Oil Filter
Porex helps an oil filter manufacturer develop a cost-effective, easy-to-replace filter in a range of efficiencies for use in home heating systems. The Porex porous oil filter offers significant advantages over traditional felt and sintered filters due to a flexible design that provides varying shapes, sizes and filtration efficiencies.
Design Challenge:
An oil filter manufacturer requested Porex’s assistance in developing cost effective filters for home heating systems that would replace existing parts made from felt and/or sintered metal. In addition to a requirement for easy replacement, functional criteria included high oil flow and a range of filtration efficiences.
Solution:
Using the existing oil filter as a basis, Porex engineers worked with the manufacturer to develop different filtering efficiencies in varying shapes and sizes. The cartridge connection featured an insert-molded PP base that incorporated a threaded fitting providing for easy replacement. Porex engineers used PE materials with different average pore sizes to obtain different filter efficiencies as well as developing special shapes to achieve a higher filter surface area.
Result:
The Porex porous oil filter offers a significant advantage over traditional felt and sintered brass filters due to flexible design capabilities that provide varying shapes, sizes and filter efficiences. Porex now produces a wide range of oil filters to meet various application needs.
