Water Intrusion Pressure

Wicking Icon
Test Method: AATCC-127
Fluid: Distilled Water
Material. Sample Size: 15.5 in2 / 100 cm2
Temperature: Ambient
Geometry: Flat Sheet

According to the Dynamic Test Method, the specimen is subjected to a steadily increasing pressure of water, until penetration occurs in three places. The test result is the pressure at which the water penetrates the fabric at the third place. The instrument conforms to AATCC 127, BS 2,823, DIN 53,886, EDANA 120.1-80, EN 20,811, INDA IST 80.4, ISO 811, ISO 1,420 A, NF G07-057, SNV 198,571 and other standards.

Test Description:
A sample is secured into a test fixture with a coaxial clamp. Distilled water is put into contact with the underside of the test specimen. A hydrostatic pressure is applied to water in contact with the test specimen. The hydrostatic pressure is increased until water is seen permeating the top side of the test specimen. The pressure corresponding to water breakthrough is recorded as the water intrusion pressure.
