Overflow Feeder Rod
A marker manufacturer selects Porex to develop a wicking product for a “free ink” system, which delivers ink directly from the marker’s chamber to the nib. Porex’s proprietary fiber technology enables engineers to solve the challenge with a feeder rod and overflow system.
Design Challenge:
A marker manufacturer selected Porex to develop a wicking product for a free ink system. Traditional ink reservoir systems use capillary force to draw ink from a reservoir to a nib and from the nib onto paper or other writing surfaces. Free ink systems contain the ink in a chamber and deliver ink directly to the nib. This requires a metered ink flow as well as a means to prevent ink leakage.
Solution:
Porex’s proprietary fiber technology enabled our engineers to solve the challenge by developing a feeder rod and overflow (OFR) system. The OFR device, was strategically placed adjacent to the feeder to intercept and return any excess ink to the feeder rod.
Result:
The Porex OFR solution gave the marker manufacturer a viable free ink marker to offer consumers. Since introducing the new marker, customer satisfaction has remained high.
