Design Challenge:
Dissolution testing is a critical performance measurement in pharmaceutical tablet and capsule products. Used to determine the bio-equivalence and absorption in the human body with in vitro-in vivo correlations, dissolution testing is conducted in apparatuses under a variety of test conditions according to the nature of the dosage form. Dissolution testing equipment removes, filters, and collects sample aliquots for further analysis. Dissolution filters are used to help filter contaminants and facilitate testing.
Solution:
Porex engineers analyzed the critical design and precision molding characteristics required by dissolution equipment manufacturers. Dissolution filter solutions were developed for numerous manufacturers improving the ability of their equipment to filter contaminants and facilitate testing. These solutions incorporated the use of Porex’s ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and polyethylene (PE) to meet individual design and performance specifications.
Result:
Porex’s cannula and circular filters and filter tips are used in a wide variety of dissolution test applications. Helping filter contaminants, Porex cannula filters feature a large surface area and optimized flow rate thus providing an ideal choice in dissolution applications where there is a high presence of particulates. Circular filters are used with low dimension sample probes and dissolution filter tips help in applications with low quantities of particulates and flow at the filter bottom.
