Urine Bag Vent

Porex stops urine bag manufacturer’s leakage problems with a single, press-fit component solution: a hydrophobic vent. Porex’s hydrophobic materials are well-suited for a multitude of other vent applications.

Design Challenge:
A manufacturer of a urine bag approached Porex with a need for a hydrophobic vent. The manufacturer’s existing urine bag and vent was subject to fluid leaks. The hydrophobic vent was required to: 1) equalize pressure differences between the bag’s interior and exterior regions, and 2) to facilitate expedient disposal of the bag’s contents during draining procedures.

Solution:
Porex’s hydrophobic materials are well suited for any number of vent applications. Through the development of a precisely sized cylindrical geometry, the manufacturer was afforded a press-fit solution into the urine bag’s existing design. Through the use of polyethylene-based vent composed of an optimized pore size, the water intrusion and volumetric airflow design requirements were easily satisfied.

Result:
The urine bag manufacturer reports complete satisfaction and eradication of problems stemming from urine bag leakage. Through the application of Porex’s development process, functional and geometric design goals were met with a single component solution.
