Automotive AC Diffuser
Porex meets the needs of an automotive component manufacturer by driving the design of a specialized part used in car air conditioners. The Porex part continues to deliver consistent quality and service to millions of automobile owners today.
Design Challenge:
A Tier 2 automotive component manufacturer needed a desiccant media retention device support in the dryer portion of an automotive air conditioner. The manufacturer was interested in the use of a desiccant retention media that offered 1) low creep, 2) efficient particulate capture efficiency, and 3) low air flow resistance. The manufacturer also needed the support of Porex for adherence to their QS-9000 program.
Solution:
Development engineers determined that Porex’s polypropylene grade material would yield the least amount of creep and withstand the high temperatures required in this application. Following the material selection, Porex engineers worked to balance filtration efficiency, dirt loading, airflow, and back pressure requirements into a single component solution. The data requirements, capability analysis, and P-PAP procedures following the development of the part were easily accommodated and documented through Porex’s own ISO 9001 system.
Result:
Today, the Porex part continues to deliver consistent quality and service to millions of automobile owners. Through Porex’s previous involvement with the automotive market (see battery vents) and Porex’s credibility as a valued partner, we were able to support the growing needs of this manufacturer in their design, development, and production stages.
