Bottle Vent
Combining porous plastics with antibacterial additives, Porex creates a preservative-free vent material for pump-spray bottles used in the healthcare industry. This innovative solution offers manufacturers exceptional air flow and performance characteristics at an affordable cost.
Design Challenge:
Producers of pump spray bottles for the healthcare industry faced increasing customer concerns over the use of preservatives in their products. Accordingly, pump spray bottle manufacturers contacted Porex in search of a preservative free solution.
Solution:
At the time, Porex had no experience with this type of drug delivery system, but our engineers realized that porous plastics offered a possible solution to vent spray bottles while preserving the sterility of the bottle’s contents. Porex engineers evaluated and analyzed various antibacterial additives to determine their efficacy with several material combinations. Design considerations included specific antibacterial properties to meet healthcare industry needs such as airflow and economic requirements.
Result:
Porex’s innovative vent solution incorporates functional additives into a porous structure, offering performance characteristics at an affordable cost. While not necessarily a solution for all preservative laiden medications, this manufacturer derived a preservative free solution through the incorporation of Porex’s material technology.
