Muffler Filter
Porex quiets muffler system noise with the design of its Porous Plastic Silencers. Available in a wide range of sizes that fit most standard valves, the product offers manufacturers numerous advantages over acoustical silencers constructed of metal – including significantly lower weight and greatly improved corrosion resistance, durability, assembly speed, and cost efficiency.
Design Challenge:
Acoustical silencers for pneumatically controlled machines were once constructed from metals such as bronze. A major disadvantage of silencers constructed from metal was their inconstancy when exposed to certain chemicals (e.g., concentrated sulfuric acid). Manufacturers required a new muffler system offering similar or improved noise reduction and durability, in addition to corrosion-resistance, faster assembly, lower weight and cost-efficiency.
Solution:
The POREX® Porous Plastic Silencers, constructed of polyethylene, were engineered to provide an optimal balance between noise reduction and acceptable backpressure in the pneumatic system. In addition, the porous polyethylene composition used for the silencer solution provided a significantly lower weight, excellent corrosion-resistance and the ability to filter particles and aerosols. Porex engineers also designed the silencer with a solid adapter to ensure easy mounting on the pneumatic equipment.
Result:
POREX Porous Plastic Silencers now provide a cost-effective solution with excellent noise diffusion capabilities for numerous applications. Our extensive selection includes a wide range of sizes designed to fit most standard valves, including NPT, BSP, M5 and "push-in" styles. The new "push-in" acoustical silencers eliminate twisting and turning with their snap-on design, which are especially useful for small sizes.
