Solving Complex Design Challenges with Porous Materials

10/14/26 - 10/14/26

Date: Wednesday, October 14, 2026

Event Summary

Abstract

Across demanding applications, engineers often face a deceptively simple challenge: something needs to be kept in, kept out, or allowed to pass through. How that challenge is solved can directly affect product performance, reliability, manufacturability, and complexity.

Engineered porous materials can provide precise control over air, liquids, particles, pressure, moisture, and other critical variables within a product or system. But achieving the right performance requires more than selecting a material—it requires the right combination of material, pore structure, geometry, surface properties, and component design.

Join Porex for a live webinar exploring how porous technologies can be engineered to solve real-world design challenges across a diverse range of applications. Through practical case studies, we’ll examine how engineered porous solutions can help:

  • Manage air and particulate flow in industrial processing environments by balancing low pressure drop, particle retention, durability, and long-term performance.
  • Control fluid delivery in agricultural and food production systems through precise wicking, retention, and dispensing that minimizes waste and improves reliability.
  • Protect gas sensors and sensitive electronics while enabling controlled gas diffusion, contamination protection, and fast, accurate sensing performance.
  • Enable venting in chemical packaging and containment systems by allowing airflow and pressure equalization while preventing liquid leakage and maintaining chemical compatibility.

We’ll also explore how technologies including sintered porous plastics, bonded fiber, and porous membranes can be tailored to specific application requirements—and how considering these decisions early in development can help reduce design iterations and create a more efficient path from concept through validation and scalable production.

Who Should Attend: Design, R&D, development, and applications engineers; product managers; and other technical professionals involved in product and system development.

Format: 45-minute presentation followed by 15 minutes of live Q&A.an significantly affect performance.
