Improved Drugs of Abuse Sample Collection

Tech Brief

Why download the tech brief:

Although the use of oral fluid has gained increasing momentum as a minimally invasive sample type, methods to improve the ease and accuracy of its collection are still being addressed. In the case of drugs of abuse, highly hydrophobic, lipophilic molecules like tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) can demonstrate significant drug loss within the collection device. This white paper shows the results of different variations of Porex materials, including two primary candidates which could achieve greater than 80% recovery, meeting the current SAMSHA guidelines. Although additional substance recovery values of other commonly abused substances need to be confirmed for field use, these results demonstrate great promise given the known molecular challenges that have been seen with THC recovery.
