Automotive ECU Enclosure Protection Case Study

Automotive | Case Studies | Membranes | Vent |

An Engine Control Unit (ECU) connected to the motor assembly system is the brains of the engine. To protect the ECU component, an IP-rated protection vent was required, to prevent damage to electronics due to the harsh environmental and operational conditions.

Our customer came to Porex seeking a venting solution. They found in their current design that rapid temperature changes during vehicle operation cause severe pressure differentials to ECU, leading to part failures. In addition to this, exposure to oil liquids also created a challenging environment for the ECU components, in an encounter known as oil mist spray, also leading to concerns of ECU and subsequent vehicle failure
